Science- Floating and sinking

Recently the children from 2nd class and senior infants were working together to discover which items would float or sink in water. They tried lots of items. Before putting the things in the water the groups discussed whether they thought the items would float or sink. The children also checked whether air can float. They put an empty bottle of water and a full bottle of water in the water. They discovered the empty bottle of water floats and the full bottle of water sinks. This shows that air floats. They also tried it with balloons- one filled with air and the other with water. 2nd class also explained to the senior infants how to make their hair stand up by using a balloon and creating static electricity.

The cafe in Aistear

Senior Infants are doing the theme of 'the cafe' in Aistear. They made delicious rice krispie buns which they want to sell as part of their role play. Trouble is, the buns were so yummy, they've eaten most of the stock! Whoops!

100 Days Assembly

There was a very special assembly this week in the school. It is 100 days into the school year and we celebrated all the boys and girls who haven't missed one day since we started. The lucky boys and girls got a certificate and were also told that they were going bowling later in the week. Ms. O Brien's 4th & 5th class did a presentation on Australia. They told us some wonderful facts about the country before singing and dancing along to the "Locomotion"

Dentist in Aistear

The Senior Infant classes have been learning about the dentist in Aistear. They did role play last week where they pretended to be receptionists, dentists and patients, which was great fun. As part of their learning, they visited their local dentist at O'Hara's dental clinic on Shandon Street. They met the staff there and they learned all about looking after their teeth. They had a lovely time!

Senior Infants- Rocky Road

The children in Senior Infants made some delicious Rocky Road cake last week as part of their Science lessons on 'heating and cooling'. They helped their teachers by mixing melted chocolate, biscuit and marshmallows, which they put in the fridge to chill. They loved eating the tasty treat!
